Purpose
I have put this site together to have a single location for the notes and other resources to help you succeed in my class.
Flipped Classroom
The idea of a flipped classroom is to 'flip' when you take notes and do homework. In a traditional class, notes are provided in class and then the homework is to be completed with the remaining time in class and at home. In a 'flipped classroom', the notes are given online and taken at home before you come to class. The homework is then done in class. There are many advantages to this. First is that you can go through the notes at your own pace, you can pause them to copy down the formulas, concepts, theorems, etc... This allows you to focus on what is being said in the notes. You can also pause the notes to give you time to try the examples before I go through them explaining how it should be done. The second advantage is that you have much more time in class to work on the assignment. This allows you more time to get help, instead of struggling your way through the assignment at home by yourself.
If this is to be successful, then you have to be a responsible student and take the notes before you come to class. You also have to use the class time to work on the assignment. If you choose not to use the class time, you are doubling the work that needs to be done for the next day of class. My responsibilities as a teacher change a little also. I will still provide the answers to the last homework and have time for questions you may have. The rest of the time I will be available to help you with the assignment as you work through the problems.
The 'flipped classroom' is reliant on being able to get the notes online. If you have trouble getting online, you do have some options. The school has computers in the library for your use, Cromaine Library has computers to use, if you are fortunate enough to have a smart phone with internet capabilities. If these are not feasible, please talk to me and we can find a solution.
